Scary Owl Safe Critter Repellant*Loud and scary! But>>>
We live on the corner lot with lots of bushes and trees behind us, while the rest of the neighborhood is more city like with small yards and no bushes. We also have a retaining wall made of large boulders, a perfect place for critters to hide. We've seen rabbits, one rat, a weasel, squirrels, moles, voles....you get it.I can't call gramps over to kill critters because he is up in the great hunting ground in the sky. So I want to repel things. This thing works! It's loud, solar powered (even in dark old Seattle), and the motion detection is great! It's very lightweight, almost too light. You might have to put something against it to keep it up. I use some rocks.Requires no technology set up and has an on off button and battery backup. I LOVE it. Fun motion activated thing for Halloween too!Just to add onto this. It doesn't ALWAYS work, not all the time. It's also very light and will tip over so plan on some screwing in of these screws or weighting it down. I took that plastic wrap that you use for packaging, the kind on a roll and wrapped it around the owl and a rock. It looks really bad, really tacky, but he stays up.

Does not work !
Does not work ! Sat the in the sun for 10 hours walked by it DIRECTLY in front about an inch away IN DAYlight and it screeched and the eyes went off. I thought GREAT it works. Brought it inside in a PITCH DARK room..... waved my hand DIRECTLY in front of it 2 feet, 1 foot, 6 inches, 1 inch DIRECTLY TOUCHING the motion detector area, tried covering the solar panel with my hand and ............ NOTHING no screech no red eyes........ZIP!! Many Animals are Nocturnal. If this doesn't work at night OR if in DAYlight the animal essentially needs to be ON THE OWL .... how can this work. And NO instructions to troubleshoot just "Bird in a Box". The only good thing it its a nice size and "looks scary" but I don't think the "looks" of a plastic owl will scare away animals (Racoon and Deer in particular) I was very excited to order this and now I am VERY disappointed !

No deer droppings
If you're using this to scare critters, from what I can tell it doesn't work. I actually saw a squirrel checking it out. With the placement of the solar panel and lack of anything to hand or mount it with, placement is limited. I've considered returning it.3JUL22: I'm amending my review. I turned this on to the red eye mode and when I went to clean up after my dog, I realize that there are no deer dropping in the yard. I'm going to assume that means that the red eyes are keeping deep out of my yard.

It's cool but...
Setting 1 (sound) does NOT work at night. I want sound at night too, or at least the option for it. The bird calls are amusing and not too loud. The glowing red eyes are awesome. I haven't decided if I will return it or not because of not having sound at night. Need a little time to test it out. Bought it because rabbits are eating my flowers. I was hoping this would keep them away, hence the nighttime sound.

"For the Birds" (made right)
I had no luck with this particular bird however, after reading my review (below), the company reached out to me and offered to make it right.I experienced Excellent Customer Service. My air conditioning man attached the bird to my air unit due to the amount of pigeons who were pooping all over the unit and my roof. The fake bird worked fine when he placed it there, however we could not hear it or see the lights flash from the ground. Unfortunately, the pigeons are not affraidof it and actually hang out with it. Sometimes there are dozens of them up there. I can't return it without paying for a service call. My plan backfired.

IT IS WORTH THE MONEY TO KEEP BIRDS AWAY
I bought this to keep birds off of my balcony and stopping them from building their nests up there and pooping. When we would sit out on our balcony it was as though the birds were attacking us. I guess they were protecting their babies from us. I did some research and found out fake owls could be used to scare off birds plus, one of my neighbors has one on her balcony. I decided to give it a try. Well, when I first put it out everything was going good, until I came home one day and my owl had fallen. From my second floor balcony on the ground. All 3 batteries fell out and the battery door broke. I used Velcro tabs to hold it down. The Velcro said it hold up to 10 pounds so I said this bird is not 10 pounds so it should hold it. (NOT) I tried glueing the Velcro strips down with super glue. (NOT) Finally I used an entire toll of gorilla tape to secure it to the bannister. So far so good. I will see if it holds once the sun comes out and heats the tape up. I can screw anything in because I live in an apartment. Other than me trying to find ways to secure it to my bannister, it is working well at keeping birds off of my balcony.

Too expensive to keep - have to replace batteries constantly
Thought this was motion activated - it continually runs, eating up expensive batteries

A photocell is NOT a motion Detector
The "motion sensor detector" mentioned in the description is just a photocell. Motion sensors react to physical movement, but photocells just detect changing light levels. Interrupt the light hitting that photocell and the owl reacts, otherwise nothing. So, unless the trespassing bird casts a shadow upon the Owl, there will be no flashing eyes or scary sound. Bummer.Another problem with the Owl is that the speaker tasked with projecting the "terrifying sound" is tiny, cheap, and located just above the battery compartment where it is effectively muffled. I easily fixed this by replacing the OEM speaker with a spare 2" loudspeaker. Plenty loud!Unfortunately, replacing that speaker now prevents me from returning Mr Owl and reclaiming my poorly-spent $25.I DO NOT recommend this product.
