Excellent small clamp
Bessey U-Style Bar Clamp,Step Over,8 In,2 Deep, steel with red wood handleThe Customer Image shows the 8" clamp and the 6" clamp. The 8" opens to 8" and the 6" to 6" -- otherwise they are the same. Made in China. My work shop has well over 100 clamps of every design, size, strength, etc. Some are for metal, some are for wood, some are small and some are huge, some are long, some are short. Every clamping job should have the proper one for best results – and for some projects, these little clamps are just right. They are the only small clamps I found with the top in a U shape rather than flat -- so it can clear some work projections. Here’s my take on some of the 1 & 2 star reviewer complaints:- “The Amazon photo says made in Germany”. The clamps are made in China, and that bait and switch photo should be replaced.- “Clamp doesn't open to specified size”. This is probably because Amazon sent the wrong clamp. Return it.- “Any vibration will loosen them”. I've used these clamps hundreds of times, but you have to get them TIGHT, as you would any clamp, for them to stay in place.- “Won't clamp”. Push the sliding bar toward the work to be clamped while tightening the handle, as you'd do for any clamp of this type.- “Flimsy construction”. This clamp’s construction is typical of a small light duty device. Buy a stronger clamp if that's what you want.- "it is very hard to get this clamp to stay in place. there is no lock system on the part that slides up and down" and "The handle keeps sliding". See above on how to tighten a clamp of this type.

Light duty, yes, but heavy enough for some uses
As a longtime woodworking pro, I have to point out that there is no such thing as a clamp that is too light or too heavy. Clamps should be sized to the job. A delicate repair needs a lightweight clamp, and a big honking job needs a massive piece of iron. These have the same size bar as Bessey's light duty GSC series clamps. They work well for clamping an auxiliary table or fence to a tablesaw, shaper or drill press. However, for fences, I wish they were heavier duty— I use big clamps to hold a fence on the shaper, for instance, but on the drill press these are fine. For table saw and especially shaper use, clamp your fences very tight and secure. That said, I'd like them better if the curved jaw was a larger radius— they clear the lip on my cast iron tables, but not by much. They do not have very deep engagement, but the convenience of not having to balance a spacer block between the webs of a cast tableis significant.I had hoped to be able to use these with my MFT table, but no way will the curved jaw fit, what with that big plastic pad. That's okay, they are cheap enough and free up better clamps when used for auxiliary tables on stationery machines.

Easy to use clap and trust worthy.
I restore vintage bikes and have had difficult time adjusting center pull brakes. With this superb product it’s an easy job.

Fantastic clamps at a crazy price
I use these clamps in the dogholes of my mini Paulk-bench. I had to grind 2 or 3" off the end as my bench is pretty thin, but overall these things are amazing at this price they're lightweight and but the material feels well-machined and resistant to breaking or bending. They provide plenty of clamping pressure on a workpiece resting on an unfinished birch top.I wouldn't use them as gluing clamps or anything like that as they're just simply engineered and I wouldn't trust that they want to hold like a good squeeze or f-clamp, but these absolutely have their place. Can't beat it!

Depth is shorter than my thumb to back of 1st knuckle and I wear lg kids gloves....
Bessey 2"×8" light duty clamp -Wow, in the pic, 2" seems much larger. Is only 1 3/8ths of actual usable space within the clamp, the 2" measurement is from the outside of pivoting head to inside of the slide rail. The pic really is deceiving even after reading that it was only 2". Slide locks in place by tilting against rail enhanced with teeny little grooves. They weren't kidding when they said light-duty. Will work for some of my purposes, and you can never have too many clamps. Will be testing out how much this baby can really handle and may update later if it turns out to be impressive. That's what we have come to expect from Bessey clamps anyway, right?

Outlasted, outworked, outperformed other clamps bought after & broke before the Bessey Clamps gave a millimeter. Still like new.
Reviewing this MONTHS and MONTHS and maybe a year after the purchase. I use these about once a week. One of the best small clamps I have ever owned.I make speaker cabinets from scratch and need about 628 clamps at all times. I have now used these particular clamps hundreds of times. Never once has one failed. And ALL clamps fail, eventually. These clamps have seen other clamps in my collection, younger than they are, come in- acting like hot potatoes, and break within a half dozen uses. The Bessey LMU2 008 clamps just smile and shake their heads at the young punk discount clamps who think they can hold anything. I had forgotten where I had gotten the Bessey Clamps until just now when this review window popped up. I will now go ahead and buy 419 of them. I hope they make big ones.

99% Perfect...
Not Sure If Slightly Grippier End Caps Would Be Better? The Present Caps Are Harder Plastic And If Not Tightened Enough, Pulling Down On The Clamp Will Eventually Lead To Slippage / Or Slipping Off. Just Good To Know It Possible Only Weakness.

Light duty clamps
I received the product yesterday. On opening I found that the items were not individually packed and the carton had a gap on one side. It is clear that the packaging was improper. Out of the 8 clamps 2 clamps did not have the red end pieces which must have fallen out. All the caps were loose and out of the lot of 8 I received only 6. I do not know how to resolve the issue. But I really feel the item is too light and it would be advisable to buy the F bar clamps which were much more sturdy.
