The book I fell in love with.
I’ll never forget the day I first began Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone. I believe I can say, with out hesitation, that it changed my life. My friend had received it for her birthday, and she suggested we give it a try. I admit I was curious, but I was not expecting anything spectacular. After all, I was an adult, and these books were for children, right? I’ve never been so wrong in my life. From the start, I was entranced. I had no idea where the story was going, but JK Rowling had me hooked. I lapped it up. I kept wanting more, and by the end, I knew I’d stumbled on to something wondrous. A series that was quite literally addictive. I adored this eleven year old boy, who had captured my heart from the time he was left wrapped in a blanket on his aunt and uncle’s doorstep. My imagination was caught from the moment the tall wizard appeared on a normal suburban street, put out the street lamps, and began sucking on a Sherbet Lemon. This book has seen me through good times and bad. It’s been my friend in unfamiliar places, and comforted me when I was sick. What could’ve been such a simplistic idea (a boy discovering he’s a wizard and being spirited off to magic school) turned out to have so much more to it. Humour, originality, mystery, and above all, plenty of magic. It helped me rediscover books from my childhood that I’d loved, and has lead to what I suspect will be a life long love of fantasy literature. I am now a firm Quidditch fan, and I think Harry’s sighting of his dead parents in a magic mirror is one of the most moving and poignant scenes I’ve ever read. And let’s not forget of course, the truly wonderful narration of Stephen Fry. He really should get an Oscar for all his character portrayals. I’ve never known anyone put so much heart in to what they read. A magical beginning to a magical series.

Wanted this on CD
Have this on audio cassette, but wanted it on CD. Didn't think you could possibly get any better than the Harry Potter books by J.K.Rowling. Then, Stephen Fry started to read them. Absolute perfection. Thanks very much

My Words are Redundant
And yet, I feel compelled to type them.As a parent:Best, I feel, for kids starting at around age ten. Not because a seven year old couldn't handle it, but because once you start a kid on this series, they will voraciously consume them all without stopping. Ideally I think a young reader should roughly be the same age as Harry in each book, because I think that was the author's intent, as the later books are more mature in theme and more complex in plot.As a Reader:I enjoy the wordplay and clever allusions and the rich, colorful, yet never verbose descriptions of the Wizarding World, but in terms of story and tone, I'm too old for this book. If you've never read Harry Potter, don't be surprised if you feel this way while reading the first few books (if you make it that far). For me, the series took off at around book four.As a Consumer:The Bloomsbury hardcover is well made and I enjoy the illustration on the cover. It's worth noting that the book underneath the jacket looks exactly the same as the jacket itself; the same illustration adorns both. If you're buying this as an adult and are assuming that underneath the jacket, there is a plain black or brown book that will not stand out on your grown-up bookshelf, think about looking for a different printing. If you're American as I am (sorry for living) you've come to the right place; the American versions have different wording and even the title of the American version of this book is changed (Sorcerer's Stone). Unforgivable.

a touch of nostalgia to treasure
Way back when we started to read Harry Potter to our children, the first book being borrowed from the Library without knowing a huge amount about it. We were hooked from page one and over the years it became somewhat of an event for the whole family eagerly awaiting the next book in the series to read about the magical world of Harry Potter and his chums. The books are so much better than the films and highly recommended even if you have seen the films. Particularly, the early books that were somewhat less dark and a bit more fun. The level of detail that goes into making this parallel world believeable is the biggest talent of all for J K Rowling. What a mind to have been able to think up the rules of Quidditch and all of the wonderful spells. My daughter was seven with the original Library copy of the Philospher's Stone, we took turns in reading a page each. My secret was that I used to leave her room at night only to go to bed and read on alone as I could not wait to see what happened next! So back to present day and a gift for a rather cool teenager, what better than the hardback version of the only book in the series that we did not actually own a copy of. Amongst all the designer clothes, CD's and perfume in the Christmas stocking this bought the biggest smile along with the Harry Potter Lego! The timeless Mr Potter brings out the inner child in all of us.

Another great experience
The media could not be loaded. Not many fans have the early Bloomsbury UK edition of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” in hardcover. And since I usually prefer hardcover editions over paperback, I decided to purchase this book.I am very happy with the purchase, book was delivered in great condition, no damage to it whatsoever.

Great book!
Even though I had read this book before, I really enjoyed all the details that are not shown in the film.
