High (metafictional) weirdness
I recently read Lost Boy Lost Girl by the author and liked it a lot, so I decided to continue reading him with In the Night Room, since it's a sort-of-sequel to LBLG. While overall I liked it alright, and the start of the novel had some interesting elements, it became a little too weird even for me. I don't mind weird and I love metafiction, but it was hard to suspend my disbelief half-way through when Tim gets together with Willy. Then not much happens until the very end, except for Willy eating a lot of sugar which made me sick to my stomach while I was reading it.Overall, some interesting stuff here that will probably keep you reading, but none of it had any emotional impact on me like the events of Lost Boy Lost Girl. I'll continue reading Mr. Straub, my next novel by him being Shadowland, so hopefully I like that one better.3 and a 1/2 stars.

KIND OF SLOW AND CONFUSING
I loved lost boy lost girl. I hoped this would be as good. I had a horrible time just getting past the first 100 pages. There were scenes that just didn't go anywhere, and I felt the story was just mish mashed together in any old order. The characters Willy and Tim were great although she wasn't given opportunity to shine until at least the middle of the book. The premise that Willy was Lilly was a bit confusing and I never found out what the anagram for the angel WCHWHLLDN (vowels omitted) was. Lillys story from Mrs. Huntress was engaging.I think it is worth reading but not a hit.

Complicated
Good book. A little hard to follow at times. A must read. Willy...the only real love of his life. Was she really real?

Peter Straub is a fantastic writer.
Peter Straub is one of the best fiction writers I've read. He has plots within plots and books within books. His phrasing and vocabulary are are both unique and erudite. I highly recommend his books.

I didn't see it coming...
Of all the ways this story could have gone, I didn't see it going the way it did. A definite surprise. When you want a great story, Peter Straub is the guy you want to see, every time.

Straub is a Master
This book is as good as anything he's written, save For "Ghost Story". Tim Underhill is a great lead character that Mr. Straub has used as his narrator through several books. Dread, mystery and wonder are skillfully woven together. I was hooked three pages in. Great Book.

Laborious Reading and a Fruitless Ending
Although the novel was able to keep my attention, Mr. Straub continues to weave ambiguity throughout his novels. No closure.

Extraordinary
A couple of weeks ago I thought to myself ‘haven’t read any Peter Straub for a while, must do something about that’ and what should appear on my Kindles recommendations list but In the Night Room.An unusual use of writers ‘tools’ but I liked it - so much so that I read it in 2 or 3 sessions over 2 days (probably wouldn’t have put it down but life intervened).Great read!

Excellent read
I was gripped by this book. It took the first chapter to be really into it but afterwards I couldn't put it down

Not my Tim Underhill
I was excited to find this book about Tim Underhill a character dear to me from other books by Peter Strain. Although the book is a good stand alone, it was spoiled for me

Peter Straub is ace, but don't bother with this one.
If you have never read Peter Straub before then DO NOT START WITH THIS BOOK! Peter Straub is a wonderful writer, but i think he must have been on ketamine when he produced this. I could say a number of things about it, but the most important thing was that i just didn't buy it.
