works good, price is right
Bought this as a used item. It was used alright, the sheet metal of the steel housing was smashed in a bit on one side to a point that it interfered with the chain a bit, looked like it had been dropped from a height. No big deal though, I took it off and straightened it out to a reasonable point and everything worked great. For a really inexpensive hoist it worked great for me. I used it to hoist an industrial drill press weighing about 300 lbs onto a rolling stand/worktable. I'll be doing more of this king of thing with it. I don't think you'd want it for heavy industrial use, but for intermittent home shop use seems like a great deal.

Smooth and easy
Used for lots of things. One being lifting my lawn mower to change the blades. Does it with ease.

Absolutely filthy but seems to work
I will start by saying that this thing is absolutely filthy, both the housing and the chain. I get that the chain is lubricated so that makes sense but even the housing is filthy. The box it shipped in just barely survived as well. The unit feels cheap, the housing sort of wobbles around like it might fall off, I still need to check if maybe the screws just need tightened. But it does seem to work well. I am using this for a single purpose, lifting my 5th wheel hitch in and out of the bed of my truck. I'm guessing the hitch weighs around 225-250 pounds, so I am not pushing the advertised limits of this hoist by any means, but it takes absolutely no effort to lift or lower the hitch. Now I can easily install the hitch without killing my old back and also needed help from my wife and son so overall, I am quite happy with this hoist.Do yourself a favor and wear gloves anytime you touch this hoist, especially the chain. I use disposable nitrile gloves since I'm pretty sure the chain will ruin other "mechanic" type gloves.*** Update 05/25/2023 ***Figured I would update my review, so everyone knows this hoist is still working very well. I've probably used it about a dozen times now and I have had zero problems with it. Again, feels a bit cheap but it does work, for my purposes anyway.

Maybe I got lucky.
Before buying this, I read most of the reviews. Many of the negative reviews mentioned that the hoist was delivered in a damaged condition. Other negative reviews stated that the hoist was not smooth in operation and some people mentioned the need to take it apart and clean/ debur the mechanism. I decided that for the price $44.99 for a one ton with a 15-foot chain I would take a chance on it. I am glad that I did as my hoist arrived in a decently strong carboard box without any damage at all. I installed the hoist in my barn and gave it a test. I only used a light 300-pound load for testing and the hoist did fine. The hoist ran fine with no binding, and I am sure it will work for my needs. As many others have reported the chains on the hoist are dirty from the factory so use gloves or spend some time cleaning them, your choice.

Lack of quality
This chain hoist is very poorly made. The casing is just thin tin. The chain jams very easily and can be very difficult to unjam. Very sorry for this purchase.

It's not only a 20 ft long lift chain, but also a hand chain is this long, too.
Used to lift heavy welder 2 stories up without any safety issue. The 20 ft long manual control chain allowed me to stand clear of the danger zone. The hook is large enough to hold 4 small nylon loops (2200 lbs per strap). Only tested up to 1/2 ton, but a similar model with 8 ft chain was tested up to 3/4 ton without slip issue for a few years now. Long manual chain is a must for high lift safety.

Nice
I haven't used it yet but will soon. Looks to be built very well and after I use it I will give another review.

Arrived with the crap beat out of it
It was not packaged with anything to keep the light gauge outer housing from being smashed and crimped into the area where the chain is supposed to pass through. It was used, like new, but I see now why it was returned. I was able to bend the housing out of the way with a rubber mallet and channel locks. The hoist itself works fine, just not happy to have to do body work to make it function.
