Better Houseware2406 Paper Towel Holder, Standard, Silver

This is my second attempt at finding/purchasing/using a magnetic paper towel holder for my tiny city apartment.The first magnetic paper towel holder I purchased was completely different, and did not work out at all due to the product's poor construction durability. Therefore, I was a little worried I may run into the same issue with this product because it looks a bit flimsy from the pictures. However, I still decided to give it a shot and purchased it.When this product arrived, you can tell it looks exactly like how it does in the pictures and exactly as described. The only thing you have to do is turn the magnets (the two round parts) over so that it can stick to whatever surface you're wanting to put it on. Once you turn it over and stick the holder onto your surface (in my case it was a fridge) all you have to do is put your paper towel on the bar and you're good to go!I did not have any issues with this paper towel holder falling apart, whether it's the magnets or the metal bars or any other parts of the item, and I also do not have any issues with this item scratching the surfaces of my fridge. So overall I believe this magnetic paper towel to be far superior to the other type I tried before simply because it does what it is suppose to, which is hold my paper towel roll, and does not create any kind of problems for me.However, the one reason I had to deduct a star from my review is because the strength of this item is not very strong. This means that even though it holds my paper towel roll, it is pretty much impossible to simply tear a sheet of paper towel off your roll with just one hand (I tried tearing to the left like other reviewers suggested and still did not work for me). In other words, you must use two hands to tear the paper towel, one hand for tearing the paper towel and the other hand for holding the roll in place. If you do not use two hands to tear your paper towel, you will either unroll a big section of your paper towel roll OR if you're a super macho all-in strength kind of person (like some people in my household) you will yank the whole thing down or off the surface. So be gentle and use two hands.Another thing I tried was to use the metal bars at the back (behind the paper towel holder bar) to hang a light object. That did not work at all, again due to the strength of the magnet. Pretty much less than a few minutes the entire magnetic paper towel holder was tilting to one side and crawling down the surface. Thus, with all this being said, I had to take one star off the item.

I started looking for a magnetic paper towel holder to go on our spare fridge out in our detached home office, as that was the perfect solution. After doing some research, I settled on this one, despite several reviews noting that the magnets were not holding tightly enough to provide stability when towels were torn off with a wrist-flick.I'm happy to report that that is not the case for us. The holder snicked into place with authority, and does not move when we tear off paper towels. This allows us to get the paper towels off the desktop (saving space) without putting holes in the wall.If there is one negative, it's that the unit is a teensy bit flimsy. That may be necessary to provide the light weight needed to remain secure with magnets, but overall it's just slightly wobbly and flexible. I don't think it's going to be enough to cause any operational issues over time, and only share that info here to prepare you if you purchase it. But, so far, so good, no issues.Also, just because it rocks, in our kitchen we use the  Perfect Tear paper towel holder , which is not magnetic but a permanent mount solution. It has a 'ratchet' like mechanism that provides the perfect tension for tearing towels without the roll spinning and unspooling additional towels.So, for convenience and ease of installation, we love the Better Houseware magnetic holder, and for our permanent installation, we *love* the Perfect Tear.It feels semi-silly to spend time reviewing paper towel holders, but this is an area where a lot of extraordinarily crappy products are sold, so I felt it would be helpful to provide info, options, and first-hand experiences for fellow shoppers.

I was concerned due to some reviews regarding the magnets not being strong enough, however that is not my experience. I don't know if some people are getting defective products or whatever they're trying to attach it to has a low iron content or what, but I have this on the door going into the garage and it is working fine. Every time I open and close the door, it puts this to the test, especially closing it since when the door comes to a sudden stop when it closes, this holder will want to keep moving and, if the magnets weren't strong enough, would fall/fly off the door. Granted, I don't slam the door, but with closing it normally this thing doesn't budge. It also doesn't move when pulling/tearing paper towels off of it.There are a couple small things that could be improved. First would be the ability to use it vertically. It shouldn't be that hard for the manufacturer to modify it so it can be, and I'm sure I could do so if I really wanted to, but it's just not worth the hassle. Still, something for them to consider. The second small issue is that the curved part at the end which holds the roll on the holder should be bigger. The roll keeps slipping past it, though it doesn't seem to continue making its way off the holder. Being on the door, again the roll will want to continue moving in that direction when the door is closed, so that no doubt makes it worse, and if used on a stationary surface it may not slide past the end, but it wouldn't hurt to make it a bit more secure nonetheless.

I have bought this before and loved it so I bought another one for my new fridge and I just think it’s so convenient, sturdy, it holds the rolls nicely in there and it’s space saving! Which I need for my tiny kitchen!! The magnets are super strong too, it never moves or shifts. I would definitely recommend it if you have a fridge that can have magnets or a magnet wall.

Really great, I hung it on my stacked washer and had it on a slight angle so the towel vibrated partway off. Remedied it by slightly angling it the other way. Wish they made something like this in a good suction cup towel holder. I'll be buying another one for my utility room, really like it!

Great for a small kitchen with limited counter space. I stuck it on the side of the fridge to free up counter space. Worth the price for me.

Best investment ever love having the paper roll off of my counter !

Awesome for my small kitchen, people keeps asking me where I found it. The magnets are way stronger than needed, mine is on the fridge and didnt move since last summer
