Network/Phone Cable Tester + RJ11/RJ12/RJ45 Network Cable Crimper + RJ45 CAT5e Connector Plug Network Tool Kits (568 Tool Kits)

This purchase really exceeded my expectations. I really just needed the tool, and was glad to get some RJ45 heads with it. The RJ45 heads aren't the best, I had plugged one into a single port, and the plastic tab was already bent a bit too far to click into place. I just had to gently bend it out, and it still works, but holy crap, they really included a lot of heads with this. The tester and the stripper were a bonus. The stripper tends to go slightly too deep, but it doesn't seem to cause any problems, and it's nothing that can't be remedied. The tester worked great, once I figured out how to use it. It's basically there to make sure that you got all of the wires in the right order, which was actually a big help. The crimper tool itself is very solid and high quality, which surprised me. I imagine you can drop it on accident from at least 10-15 feet up, and it would survive just fine. My biggest gripe with it, is that it's not the easiest to insert the wires into the head, especially in the right order. However, that's nothing a bobby pin can't fix, to sort of clamp them in the right order.This gets 5 stars from me, because I really wasn't expecting it to be this good for such a low price (~$15). If it had cost twice as much, I would have dropped a star.

I'm really pleased with this tool kit. Below are some notes I wrote to myself so that when I go back to use it again it will remind me of how I used everything and which tools I preferred using from the kit.Stripping the cable sheathing: I tried using both the yellow Ubigear stripper and the MultiCond stripper (the small gray one that looks like a clamp), but neither one worked well. They both nicked the wires inside the sheathing. I instead used the pair of red wire cutters to strip the sheathing. I noticed later that the gray MultiCond tool had a screw at the end. I probably could have used that to adjust the cutting depth. It would be worth experimenting with.The Blue Ubi Gear cable tester is great. Make sure the 9-Volt battery works before you use it. Plug each end of the cable into each end of the tester (it slides apart), and it will tell you via the lights if it works or not. If one of the lights doesn’t flash on (in order), then that indicates where there is a problem.When using the yellow UbiGear multi-tool to cut, remember that the side with only ONE blade is the cutting side. I’m not sure what the side with two blades is for, but it never cut the cable all the way through.The slots at the end of the UbiGear tool are used to crimp down the ends of the plastic cable connector when building a cable so the connector doesn’t fall off. The 8P is for Ethernet cable. (I assume the 6P is for phone cable.)Punch Down toolsThe kit came with two punch down tools…a gray one with a red cover over the tip and a beige one with a scissor shaped cutter. I preferred the gray one because it cut more consistently. The beige one, however, had a great hook that popped out in the side and I used it when inserting the square bolts into the server cabinet. (Seriously awesome that it was built in!)It would have been nice if they'd included a bubble level, but other than that, the kit had everything I needed!

I used this kit to repair my internet PoE cable. Mice had chewed the cable and it would short out. The installer had left me with enough extremely lengthy cable so I wasn't too worried about cutting it off and putting a new end on. I can use the excess for a new cable or a few. Lol I also repaired some other ethernet cables I had stashed away.As others have stated, the crimper tool doesn't always line up quite right for cutting cable. It wasn't too difficult to line it up correctly, though. The stripper and crimper parts worked fine for me. If I were doing a lot of cables, then I'd probably get a better tool. This is fine for patching a few, though, and handy to have around.The ends are cheap and a bit crap. They are working fine for my needs at the moment, but do not lock in very well when the cable is plugged in. Sometime I will get more expensive ends, but these are fine for now. Just don't expect a nice snap when you connect them. They are also a bit difficult to get the wire into easily, but perhaps all ends are like this.The tester that comes with this works fine for making sure the cables work. I used it to test all my ethernet cables except the PoE since it's hardwired into the radio on my roof. This tester enabled me to find that I'd crossed two wires on one cable end so I was able to easily fix it.Overall this is a nice and cheap set to have around the house/shop for repairs. If you are looking at repairing/making a lot of cables, then you may want to invest in a more expensive set. This worked fine for me, though. I'd read several of the reviews on here and for my needs, this set was everything I expected.
