Well presented science
An excellent book which points out the dangers and lies of "alternative" medicine. For those who aren't familiar with the term "alternative" medicine is that which claims to be therapeutic but for which there is no reliable evidence to support it - for example homeopathy, reiki, many supposed uses of vitamins and natural extracts.Dr Offit points out that while many pushers of supplements point to the pharmaceutical industry as a large, persuasive multimillion industry, that the supplement industry is also huge, making billions of dollars of profit every year, while not having to show their products have any effect, or even show that they are safe.A well written, well researched book. Those giving one star reviews are most likely those who embrace alternative medicines and who feel confronted by the facts that Dr Offit presents. They should just suck it up, after all the rest of us have put up with decades of bogus natural therapy products splashed all over tv and magazines most of which have the effectiveness of the x-ray glasses once flogged off in comic books.

Good approach
It is very clear describing how the alternative medicine industry works. The author clearly favors the scientific approach to medicine, but admits that the placebo effect may play a role via alternative doctors. I liked it.

It's clear
This book is showing again the warped thinking behind some of alternative "medicine".Advisable to those that know the world is round and not flat, the sun is not revolving around the earth and those that do not believe in infinite dilutions.

Essential reading
Offit manages to challenge the many fallacies and falsehoods of alternative medicine without being judgmental or dogmatic. This is a humble book, yet simultaneously profound. Read it. It might save you money, or even your life.

printing error
I bought this one recently, and same as someone else said on here, the book lacked a few lines at top and bottom of almost every page. I had to return it. It is unreadable and such a shame. I like Offit's scientific approach to medicine, and I am surrounded by anti-vaxxers, pseudo-medicines, wellness and healthy food and bla bla, and I find his books really important. You would expect the editors of this book to be aware of the problem by now and get this corrected.
