Don't hesitate to buy this motor...it is excellent!
I use this motor to replace a B&S motor on my log splitter. WOW! What a difference it makes. It cranks on the first pull every time and the markings on which way the levers go are very easy to see, unlike the B&S motor. This motor makes my log splitter run like new.I tried to purchase this motor from Harbor Freight but they would not ship it to Alaska and would not ship it to the barge. It's not my fault that they don't recognize Alaska as part of the United States.Trusty ole Amazon sent it to the barge company and it arrived on time.If I ever need another motor for anything else, I will certainly look for the predator line as my goto motor.

May require alterations to fit, but worth it.
I bought this to replace the 20+ year old Briggs engine on my log splitter, because Briggs no longer offers a replacement. I didn5 expect this to simply bolt in place, but the previous ratings suggested it was worth a little extra effort. It was. I had to drill a couple new mounting holes in the frame and turn the recoil starter a few degrees, but when I fired this puppy up, it was love at first yank. Awesome engine. Incredible value.

Troy-bilt with a smile
I was a little apprehensive to buy this but after much research decided to give it a try. I bought my troy-bilt in 1980 and it was faithful right up to this year but got tired of pulling the old Tecumseh 7hp. If all goes well for you it will take about one hour (more or less depending on rust and bolts which I had none of) to take the old engine off and put this one on. It runs like a dream and brought the old girl back to life. Well worth the price and more.

Need One!
Can’t speak to the lifespan, and it was a pain in the butt to install. I replaced the 79cc monster moto engine with this thing. Required significant frame mods and machined spacers. I’ve been a mechanic for my whole life so no problem, but if you don’t have an assortment of hand and shop tools it might be tough. However, once completed, this thing was sick. The old engine could only move me if it were flat ground and I helped start it by walking. After engine replacement, I can climb hills at 35 mph! My 12-yr old daughter hopped on it, popped a wheelie across the driveway and into the pine trees. She doesn’t ride it anymore. Exactly what I was hoping it would be. Full disclosure: I also installed the cold air intake kit, straight pipe header, performance centrifugal clutch, rechained it and swapped out the rear sprocket. YMMV.

good value with plenty of power
I purchased this motor to replace a thirty-five-year-old 5 h.p. Tecumseh motor on my snow blower. Installation was pretty straightforward, and the mounting base lined up perfectly with the old motor mount holes. Be aware that the exhaust does extend out a bit from the shaft side of the engine, but in my case this did not create any issues. I could see where it might create some problems depending on your installation.I followed the instructions, and the engine started on the first pull brand-new. Even in cold weather it will start on the first or second pull. I like the fact this comes with a couple of places to insert a throttle cable, and also allows you to use rather generic cables. I could see this as a definite plus for go kart users, and it's certainly a nice feature for my snow blower. The gasoline tank capacity Is larger than my old motor, and less refilling it's a nice thing. It seems to be fairly economical on gas as well.I'm not crazy about the plastic choke and fuel lever. Plastic tends to become brittle over time, and I can see these snapping off. One star removed. The throttle linkage is not the smoothest in the world, and the stamped metal is very cheap. I can also see the cooling fins for the impeller are plastic, but I'm not sure that's much of an issue in their location. The air cleaner is completely plastic with a rather generic piece of foam as a filter. For my snow blower, I will probably just remove this as dust is not a real big issue in the winter! I suspect better quality filters are available for the go cart users out there. In terms of power this run circles around my old Tecumseh. My snow blower is better than it was brand-new powering through just about anything I can throw at it, and speaking of throwing, it tosses the snow out of the ballpark. A fantastic performer! I just hope it runs for the longer haul. For the price, if it lasted three or four years, I probably just buy another one. I know a lot of people are buying these from harbor freight, but here in Alaska shipping is outrageous, and HF ships fourth class mail. For the twenty-seven dollars I paid in shipping, it was well worth it as it was sent UPS, and I had it within a week. I'm sure the vendor probably spent sixty or seventy dollars getting it here.update January 2017. I use this Engine on my snowblower, probably about four or five times a year. So, it has not seen a whole lot of use. I went out today to move some heavier snow, and the engine suddenly died. I peeked down and notice oil squirting out the side of the block. It appears it's coming out of the oil pressure probe/sensor. Not sure if the engine is toast or not, but I've never seen a small engine do this or what caused it. I was definitely pushing the engine a bit, but seems like it should have handled things okay. So, I would say I've gotten about 15 uses out of this. I typically go about 45 min. at a time, so something like 11.25 hours? Not exactly stellar performance. In the uploaded photo, the oil is coming from where the yellow wire goes into what i think is the pressure sensor. If anyone can help, please post a comment below. Maybe an easy fix?

Awesome unit at an awesome price!
Perfect replacement for the Honda 5, 5.5, etc on a log splitter. Shaft is the same key-way and diameter. I rotated the pull handle mechanism which is just three bolts and rotated it where the handle is to the outside. You can’t go wrong with this!
