Very sturdy and securely holds all types of hunting gear.
I like the light sturdy polymer reinforced with metal frame and inserts. Add gun oil to all threads and is easily adjustable and maintains grip on all types of guns and bows. I own another older version, and my son "borrowed" it for his hunting equipment. May be a little stiff when new but never failed to do its job and definitely worth the investment.

MAKES CLANING RIFLES EASY
I SURE WISH I HAD THIS 40 YEARS AGO. I have been a shooter most of my life and always cleaning guns of one shape, size or configuration. My son got one and I was sold so I shopped around and found this one on Amazon as a used like new, and what difference a day makes. I love it . Specially when cleaning rifles like my sharps buffalo rifle. Big and heavy. Put it in the gun vice and clean away. It doesn't move or slide around. It works great for my smoke pole as well. If you are a shooter this is a must. It is portable and when not in use can be placed out of the way.

Decent Vise, but needs design changes
I purchased the Tipton Ultra Vise through Amazon. The Vise arrived in good shape, and as I removed it from the box and began to assemble the pieces onto the device, I knocked one of the chassis pieces off the bench and it hit the concrete floor in my garage. The fall broke one of the adjustment knobs wherethe knob attached to the plastic insert it was designed to loosen and tighten. I did not realize it was broken until I went to screw the knob backwards to loosen the part and the knob completely backed off of the Vise chassis.Looking at the plastic and how it was assembled, the design for this is not very well-made. The piece the knob attached to is very thin plastic and the plastic is extremely brittle. The fall from the bench broke the plastic at the attachment point.Looking at how brittle and thin the plastic is and the fact the entire product is made with knobs attached to the same kind of thin brittle plastic at all tensioing points, I’m quite sure a small amount of torque applied to any of the knobs will break and shatter the plastic. The knobs are going to require gentle handling to avoid breaking. To be fair, I contacted Tipton and they offered to send a replacement piece without question under the warranty. That was a pleasant surprise, especially when the damage was clearly my fault. It is great to have a company that stands behind their products. However, a simple design change both in how thick the plastic is, and the type of plastic being used would probably solve the problems for them and cause a lot less headaches for the end user who purchases one of these.Overall, the Vise looks to be solid and will be a great platform for working on firearms of all types. However, to answer the question from those who asked if this vise could be used as a shooting vise, the answer would be absolutely not. There is no way you could torque down the adjustment knobs, tight enough to hold a rifle steady for firing without damaging the tensioning mechanisms. And the device would not hold up to recoil. The company is so willing to stand behind the product and the device is still functional for what it was intended to be used for. I am only giving it four stars, because a bench vise at this price should not require the user to have to gingerly handle the components and mechanisms to avoid breaking a piece that was designed to loosen and tighten down on and hold work pieces. The thin plastic, and the brittleness of the plastic under the knobs are a major issue.I would still recommend the Vise overall, But would strongly caution anyone who purchases it to avoid overtorquing any part in the adjustment knobs are designed to tighten down on. Hopefully in the future, Tipton may redesign the system and make it more durable.

Tipton finally got this one right!!
I've had the Tipon "Best" Gun Vise for years - and it stunk. The cam clamps to hold the stocks were lousy at best; the height adjustment was clumsy and the plastic was crazy cheap feeling. This has the stability, flexibility, versatility and clamping strength that you've always wanted from a table vise. It feels like its a fiberglass composite material - very rigid. The oversized red knobs for tightening are very ergo friendly and comfortable. Some reviews talked about how the vertical adjustments wouldn't "stay" and they kept slipping back down - which I did encounter as well. Stumbled onto a YouTube video of a guy explaining you have to sand down the side walls of the vertical support because they're toe-nailed a bit - and once you sand them down to make them flatter, theres much more bearing surface for the pad to grip to hold the vertical support in place - and it really does!! I even used 60grit sand paper to keep it course to assist with the grip. Been very pleased with my hand-sanding mod. (Be sure to have a sanding block behind your paper to ensure you're sanding it perfectly FLAT!)Have got quite a few Tipton products around my bench - and I've loved all of them and have given me years of quality use. Except their "Best" Vise. This Ultra vise deserves its name - I can finally LOVE my vise.
